With TEDxDetroit only a few days away, we took the opportunity to check in with upcoming speaker Natasha Wescoat. Natasha is the chief creative officer of Natasha Wescoat Enterprises, LLC, a firm she co-founded in 2011 to promote her work and art. Natasha also co-founded CreateLive. She frequently speaks at seminars and conferences about topics ranging from art to social media and occasionally contributes as a comic writer and artist for Mashable. Check out what she said about TEDxDetroit and the city of Detroit:

Please describe your previous experience with any TED conferences.

I’ve never personally attended a TED conference, but I am a huge admirer of the event and often find myself watching a lot of the presenter videos on the main site. I was invited to speak previously at the TEDx events in Southern California while I was there, but I never had the time to be a part.

Can you give us a sneak peek at your positive idea you will share at the event?

I will be painting a pretty large piece of canvas within a short amount of time that’s going to be pretty awesome. Trust me.

What do you love most about the city of Detroit?

I love that Detroit is so full of creativity and spunk. I love the music scene, the growing art scene and that techno was born here. I’m very excited to see that people are working hard to bring Detroit back to the place it once was, the hub of innovation, creativity and hard work.

In your opinion, what do you think is in store for the city of Detroit?

Detroit is in store for amazing things. The tech scene is growing and the art scene is booming. Groups are coming together to reinvent, inspire and empower the city of Detroit.

How do you think TEDxDetroit will impact the city of Detroit and contribute to the overall goals of TED?

I think TEDxDetroit is one of a few very vital pieces that will help change and evolve the city of Detroit through idea sharing, highlighting people of the city, and inspiring the city to do more and to do better.

To hear Natasha share more about his positive ideas for the city of Detroit, as well as dozens of other fascinating speakers and artists, don’t miss this year’s TEDxDetroit conference at the Max M. Fisher Music Center on September 28. Apply for tickets today.
